Five simple ways to start utilizing content marketing

So you might be wondering, what the hell is content marketing? Why are all of these advertising wizards telling me that I need to start working on building my own content? I’m already a master at conventional advertising, why should I start this new form of marketing? Well, as it turns out, the average consumer does everything they humanly can to avoid ads. Adblock has become increasingly popular over the last few years and people use subscription services like Netflix in order to avoid commercials. What content marketing does is advertise your company in a seamless and interesting way. People are always interested in reading great content and it might as well come from you.  It’ll advertise your company, and entertain your potential clients. It’s a win-win situation! So, here’s what you can do to successfully start content marketing unless you want to be one of those old farts that still thinks conventional advertising is the only way to go. Here are five simple ways to start utilizing content marketing from an inbound marketing company in Brooklyn.

Know your demographic

Knowing your demographic is important, not only does it give you a better idea of who you want to sell your product or service to, but it also allows you to have a better idea of what the sort of content you should create. For example, if I was making a video or writing an article targeted towards the ages 11-14, I would probably use more silly and outlandish titles or jokes within this product to get them to check it out. Every demographic is attracted to different things, so by knowing who you want to target, you are ultimately making more effective content.

Create clickable ideas

This might seem a little skeevy, but it isn’t. You don’t need to make your content 100% clickbait (in fact, that’s the exact opposite of what you should do if you want people to have any respect towards your product). You should know what your targeted demographic generally clicks on and use that to your advantage. It’s an awesome inbound marketing strategy and if used cleverly, can be very effective in drawing new people towards your company. People are also generally smarter than you would think when it comes to clickable titles. A lot of people can smell clickbait from a mile away, so don’t fall into that trap if you want to be taken seriously.

Work on your craft

This should seem obvious, but there are a lot of s@#$%y marketers and writers out there. You should be practicing as often as you can in creating the best, high quality content you can provide to your beloved consumers. Digital marketing is a new phenomenon in the world of advertising and there are a lot of people who haven’t bothered to perfect their craft. You should always look at it from this perspective: Would you want to read the content you put out? If the answer is no, you have to put more work into it. End of story. Not only will it help you with your inbound marketing strategy, but it’ll help you in the future when advertising will inevitably evolve over time.

Make sure it’ll optimize your SEO

You should be constantly creating quality content, but it won’t do you any good if nobody can find the content you worked so hard to put together. Using content to get traffic to your website is the most prevelant and most consistently used search engine optimization technique used today.  Check out this article on how to improve your SEO ranking. Trust me, it’ll only help you in the long run and it’s better to learn this stuff now before you put out your dope content.

Make worthwhile/shareable content

I can’t stress this enough. Make sure the f@%&** content you put out is actually worth reading! You can use every single content marketing trick in the book, but it won’t mean anything if it sucks. This might seem similar to working on your craft, but that’s how important it is. Look at all the successful companies that have successfully utilized inbound marketing and content marketing, and you’ll see that a large majority of it is of good quality. Not only will it help you in the long run, but you’ll feel much better going to sleep at night, knowing that your consumers are getting the best possible product that you can provide.
